Wills
We offer a fast, friendly and professional will writing service at affordable rates.
We will provide a fixed fee quote for writing your will based on your requirements.
Our specialist solicitors will meet you face to face and try to take the time to understand your requirements and explain matters to you.
You can meet us at our offices, or if that is not possible we can visit you in the comfort of your own home or work at a time to suit you. We can also provide hospital visits if required.
Unlike some organisations offering will writing services we will meet you face to face and your will is prepared by a fully qualified solicitor regulated by the Law Society of England and Wales.
We will also store your will free of charge if you wish once it has been signed.
We are also able to assist you with preparing Lasting Powers of Attorney, Living Wills, Advance Directives and Letters of Wishes if required. We can also help you deal with the affairs of someone who has died (probate and administration) and with contested estates.
Making a will is an important step and should not be left to chance. There are many reasons why it is important to make a will including that:
- Without a will the state directs who will inherit your money and possessions and this may not include those who you want them to go to.
- If you have a partner but are not married your partner may be left with nothing if you have not made a will.
- If you have children under 18 years of age you can appoint someone in your will to look after them if you die.
- If you die without a will it can often lead to one or more people making a claim against your estate and may lead to a dispute amongst your family and friends
- If you make a will your solicitor can also advise you how inheritance tax may affect what you own and may be able to suggest means of saving tax and protecting your assets after you die.
- If you own a business or have assets overseas this may result in problems if you do not have a will.
Probate and Estate Administration
If you have recently suffered a bereavement and are looking for help in dealing with the property and affairs of someone who has died we can help.
Dealing with the affairs of someone who has passed away can be difficult, confusing and worrying at an emotionally difficult time.
We can help where the person who died left a will (probate) and in cases where there was no will (administration).
Probate (where there is a will) and Administration (usually where there is no will) together referred to as Letters of Administration is the process whereby the court grants authority to someone to deal with the deceaseds property and assets including where applicable their bank accounts, house and other possessions and is usually required if the deceased has assets exceeding £10,000 in any one bank account.
The job of dealing with the estate of someone who has passed away carries many responsibilities including;
- Making necessary enquiries to establish what property and assets the deceased had
- Arranging the funeral
- Dealing with the deceaseds tax affairs and those of the estate including claiming all available reliefs and completing all necessary tax returns (penalties may apply if these are not dealt with correctly)
- Arranging to close/transfer any bank accounts and deal with the sale of any shares or cashing in/transfer of other investments
- Arranging clearance of the house or flat where appropriate and valuation of contents
- Paying bills and outstanding liabilities
- Carrying out the wishes of the deceased in any will
- Distributing the money and property in accordance with either the will or under the Intestacy Rules if there is no will
- Dealing with any claims against the estate
Your choice of solicitor to help you deal with the estate administration is important. We have solicitors who have experience dealing with all types of estate ranging from those with few assets to those with significant assets and property in other countries.
We are able to offer a competitive quote and unlike some large organisations the solicitor instructed by you will be the solicitor dealing with your case who will meet you face to face. Your case will be dealt with by a professional qualified solicitor experienced in this area of the law who can deal with matters quickly and efficiently.
